Science Jam Details

Alright Division 1, after all your hard work, Science Jam is finally here!!  Get a good nights sleep tonight, and make sure you wake up....A Scientist! ;)

Please read the details and instructions below, and look at the map WITH YOUR PARENTS to ensure you go to the right place at Aberdeen.  Remind your parents that there are shuttles leaving from Sexsmith Park & Ride regularly, so that they don't have to worry about parking at Aberdeen if it is extremely busy.  Be at Aberdeen at 3:15pm, and come find me and Mrs. Tolley in our designated area, shown on the map below.

1.     You each must wear a nametag. The nametag with a red dot will go to the students that DO NOT have media consent.  The Richmond Review and CTV will be on site to interact with you.

2.    You will receive a Bingo Boards from me when you arrive – once completed they go intothe prize draw box at the Registration Desk.  The prize draw will happen after the Science Jam Surprises Show.  Please note: YOU must be present to pick up your prize.  A tablet (donated by NCIX) is the grand prize!

3.   The final map is posted below.  I will get programs from the Registration Desk.

4.  Be ready for the Opening Ceremonies at 4:00pm – this means you must be set up and ready to go before this time.  We will be able to see them from our tables.

5.    The Science Jam Surprises Show by Science World will be at 6:00pm. Closing Ceremonies/Prize Draw will be at 6:20pm - you can view from all three levels of the mall.  Please note that students must be present to pick up their prizes.  The grand prize is a Nexus tablet from NCIX!

6.      I will handout all your student goodies back at school.  I'm sure we'll enjoy the goodies from the sponsors – thank you!

7.      If you visit the food court, please be accompanied by your parents and/or limit your time there to 15 minutes.  Tell me or Mrs. Tolley where you are going, and check in when you return.

Thanks for all your hard work!  I really look forward to celebrating with you all tomorrow!

Vancouver Museum

Today was a very exciting day for Division, at the Museum of Vancouver in Kitsilano.  The morning consisted of exploring the History of Vancouver, where we learned about the "Roaring 20's" and early real-estate Boom, the Bust during the depression years, the War that followed, the "Revolution", and the "Hippie" era.  Students loved being able to model the fashion styles, sit in the old White Spot booth, pretend to be the proud owners of a 55 Ford Fairlane, play music from the jukebox, play with different wooden toys and games, and learn about how our great city came to be!

After a quick walk to the beach for lunch, we began our Educational Workshops.  The students got to participate in two different sessions that complemented our Ancient Egyptian unit very well.  The first was the Archaeological Dig, whereby students learned how to carefully uncover and analyze artifacts from ancient civilizations around the world.  Fortunately, they were all experts on the Scientific Process, and came up with some excellent hypotheses!  The second session was the Mummy Exhibit.  Not only did the students learn the purpose and procedures for mummification, they got to see the mummy of a 10 year old boy named Panechates, son of Hatres, from Ancient Egypt!

One week to Science Jam!

Science Jam is fast approaching...so it is time to plan the details...

You are all responsible for getting yourself to and from Aberdeen Mall for Science Jam.  Have your parents drop you off at Aberdeen Mall at 3:15pm, and pick you up at 6:30pm.  I will bring your poster boards, and will be there at 3:00pm.  When you arrive, ask where Errington is located, and you will find me there!

Because there will be hundreds of students participating at Science Jam, traffic and parking at Aberdeen Mall will be horrendous!  In order to help everyone out, there will be shuttle buses running for parents, from the Sexsmith Park & Ride, located along Hazelbridge Way, to and from Aberdeen Mall.  The first shuttle will leave Sexsmith at 3:30pm, and the last shuttle will leave Aberdeen at 7:00pm.  Please arrange to get to and from Aberdeen with your parents.

Ancient Egypt

Division 1 Challenge...

Follow this link to "Death in Sakkara - And Egyptian Adventure"

Here you will be asked to read the journal and telegraphs in order to decipher clues, and solve mysteries.  Go through each chapter, starting from the beginning.  If you don't read the Journal and important letters and telegraphs as you go, you will not be able to unlock volts and treasure chests to continue!

If you get to the end and figure out the answer, post it here.  I will not publish them until everyone's answer is in.  Do not tell anyone else the answer or give away the clues!

Good luck and have fun!!
